Kashgar Pamir Youth Hostel – Kashgar, Xinjiang
喀什帕米尔青年旅舍
- Chinese Name: 喀什帕米尔青年旅舍 (Kāshi pàmǐ’ěr qīngnián lǚshě)
- Address: Id Kah Bazaar District 7, Section A, 3rd floor
- Phone: 0998-2823376 or 180-9985-1967
- Directions: Take the airport shuttle or taxi to Id Kah Mosque or by bus get to the 艾提尕尔站 (Àitígǎěr zhàn) bus stop. The hostel is on the north side of the mosque square (to the right if you’re facing the mosque) on the 3rd floor of the building with a green glass dome.
Location
One of the distinct advantages that the Pamir hostel has over most hotels in the area is an excellent location. Both this hostel and the Old Town Youth Hostel here in Kashgar offer direct access to the most interesting parts of the city – namely the Old Town and the Id Kah Mosque.
The Pamir even has great views from an outdoor patio and resting area overlooking the mosque. In the spring and fall this patio can be one of the most relaxing places in the city.
Based on location alone, this is one of the best hostels in Kashgar and perhaps even Xinjiang.
Atmosphere
The Pamir has made a valiant attempt to match the decoration with the location. It’s not always the cleanest place in the world (although the standard here in Xinjiang is much lower than the rest of China), but most people agree that the location is a worthy tradeoff.
They offer free wifi throughout the place and boast a nice library of books in all languages for travelers. They have made a good name for themselves which means that during the warmer months it’s a great place to meet up with other travelers.
It’s an excellent option if your goal is to meet up with other travelers and be in the heart of Kashgar’s Old City and night market.
Room Options
The Kashgar Pamir Youth Hostel offers a few different room options, all reasonably priced. The prices, as with all hotels and hostels, change with the season so it’s best to check ahead of time.
The hostel offers 8-bed dorm rooms as well as private twin rooms. Not all of them come with A/C and it’s helpful to note that Kashgar can get quite hot in the summer! The dorms do have lockers, which is a plus. My biggest complaint with the hostel is their bathroom situation. Not only are they not very clean, hot water for showers can be finicky.
Tip: I’ve heard this from many traveler’s and experienced it myself – you need to book ahead of time, especially in the peak season (summer/spring). This is particularly true if you want a private room or a room with A/C. Use the link below to check availability.

About Kashgar
Kashgar, once a famous stop on the ancient Silk Road, has now become the center of Central Asian trade and the westernmost city of China.
Although the city has experienced much change over the past decade, it is still possible to walk back in time through mud alleys in the Kashgar Old City or hear the calls to prayer from the yellow minarets of the Id Kah Mosque.
Kashgar is accessible via air from the Kashgar International Airport in the north of town, via train at the Kashgar Train Station to the east of town and via bus which enters further into downtown.
If you’re planning to spend a few days here – which you should! – you might want to dig deeper with the FarWestChina Kashgar City Guide.
